How to remove water stains from ceilings without painting. Cover the water spots on the ceiling with the primer using a foam brush. Scrape away any loose or flaking paint until the ceiling is smooth. A solution of household laundry bleach mixed with water is effective on most common forms of mold.

Wipe away any excess primer. Lay a drop. You may need to sand around the edges of any chipped areas if large flakes. If you have a coloured ceiling use oxygen bleach rather than chlorine.

Place the tip of the brush into the primer and dab it onto the ceiling over the water spots. Use a bleach water solution to blot and wipe the stain away after the area dries if it is still stable you can directly paint over the area remove the damaged part of the ceiling ceiling tiles drywall and replace with new clean sections. Clean the ceiling with tsp to remove dust and grease that would prevent paint from sticking. The same type of stain will also be present from about 3 4 of the way up interior walls and all the way up to the ceiling.

Spray cans work better than a brush especially on popcorn or textured ceilings. Start by finding the cause of the leak and repairing the problem to prevent damage in the future. Unlike other stains they tend to be more consistent and uniform like a thick layer of brown dust spread evenly across the ceiling.
